looking through video / death of film

i thought the first reading was interesting in the way it separated video and film. the part that i spent the most time thinking about, was the comparison of television to film. television, being designed around "transmission" as opposed to film, which can be planned, edited, etc. growing up having both readily available keeps these distinctions out of mind. when thinking about it, it is really apparent that each requires expertise in a different area; an expert at one is not necessarily an expert at the other.

the other article was a bit...long-winded for me. it did remind me ofsomething i once read about steven spielberg. i don't remember how recently this was, but i think iremember seeing that
he tries to stick to film over digital, or perhaps it was that he uses film exclusively. i cannot remember, but if it was a recent quote that is pretty remarkable for today's digital age. it almost reminds me of the belief that books are becoming obsolete with hand-heldreaders, computers and smartphones. i think that there will always be a place for the physical medium, though i am not really one to use it.
